Adoption can be a meaningful and life-changing experience, but it can also bring questions, challenges, and emotions that are difficult to navigate alone. Whether you are an adult adoptee, birth parent, adoptive parent, grandparent, sibling, or another member of the adoption constellation, your story is unique and deserves to be understood with care and compassion.
Adoption can influence identity, relationships, attachment, grief, belonging, and emotional well-being throughout life. While many therapists are compassionate and skilled, not all have specialized training in adoption-related issues. Working with a therapist who has advanced education in adoption can provide a deeper understanding of the experiences that often accompany adoption across the lifespan.
Adoption-informed therapy is grounded in an understanding of the unique emotional, relational, and developmental experiences that can arise through adoption. It recognizes that adoption is not a single event but a lifelong experience that may affect individuals and families in different ways over time.
I am a graduate of the accredited Training for Adoption Competency (TAC), an intensive year-long professional training program developed by the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.). Through this training, I earned the C.A.S.E. Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) certificate and received advanced education in adoption-related topics including identity development, attachment, grief and loss, trauma, search and reunion experiences, family relationships, and the lifelong impact of adoption.
This specialized training helps me provide thoughtful, informed therapy for adults who are navigating adoption-related experiences and questions.
I provide individual therapy for adults who are part of the adoption kinship network, including:
Adult adoptees
Birth parents
Adoptive parents
Adult siblings of adoptees
Grandparents and extended family members
Adults impacted by kinship, foster care, domestic, or international adoption experiences
Therapy can provide a supportive space to explore adoption-related experiences, emotions, relationships, and life transitions.
People often seek adoption-informed therapy for concerns such as:
Identity questions and self-discovery
Feelings of grief, loss, or ambiguity related to adoption
Questions about belonging and connection
Search and reunion experiences
Family relationship challenges
Attachment concerns
Feelings of rejection, abandonment, or low self-worth
Anger, sadness, anxiety, or unresolved emotions connected to adoption experiences
Parenting challenges related to adoption within the family system
Boundary concerns and changing family dynamics
Processing trauma or difficult life experiences
Every adoption experience is different. Some individuals seek therapy because adoption feels central to their current struggles, while others discover that adoption-related themes emerge over time as they explore their broader life experiences.
Adoption experiences are often complex and layered. A therapist with specialized training in adoption-related issues can better understand the ways adoption may intersect with attachment, trauma, identity development, grief, relationships, and life transitions.
Many adults report feeling misunderstood when adoption-related concerns are minimized or viewed only through a traditional family framework. Therapy provides a space where the realities of adoption can be explored openly and thoughtfully, without assumptions about how adoption "should" feel.
My approach is trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and grounded in respect for each individual's lived experience. Therapy is not about viewing adoption as entirely positive or entirely negative. Instead, it is about creating space for the full range of experiences, emotions, and perspectives that may exist simultaneously.
Identity exploration
Adoption-related grief and loss
Search and reunion experiences
Family relationship challenges
Attachment concerns
Questions about belonging
Self-worth and self-understanding
Boundary and communication issues
